Marc said that Zach fell asleep around midnight and did not wake up until about 9:30am. He had a normal appetite all day, requesting his usual favorite foods and eating his normal quantities. He did not require his narcotic meds for the bulk of the day and did not appear to be in any pain. He's been all smiles and his usual singing, stimming, and goofy self. He even began to experiment a little bit with his casts. He's discovered that he can get on his side and roll over onto his belly. He has also begun to pull himself around on his elbows if he wants something in another part of his room. Even clothing changes have gotten easier, as he is now able to help us out by lifting up his bum and rolling from one side to another. This new ability to move around is making him a much happier boy and he's been in a great mood! So great to see that little personality return so quickly!

Zach has also moved on from simply laying around watching Elmo videos (as he has done for the last few days) and rediscovered my laptop. I had to bribe him with playing Angry Birds on my IPad in order to even type this entry. I can't express how proud I am of how well he is dealing with all of this. He has not cried even once today and he no longer asks us to "off shoes". He's pretty much resigned to he fact that these big blue "shoes" are he to stay for a while and he's now made it his mission to get his needs met despite them. How many of us would be so positive about this yucky situation? Add in sensory issues and a lack of understanding the purpose behind the surgery...what a kid!!!!
Thank you so much to all of you! I can't even begin to express how uplifting it has been to have so many well wishes and words of encouragement sent our way on a daily basis! Zachary's school has been an especially supportive force for us! What an amazing group of caring people!! In any other setting, I would be a bit nervous about him returning to school so quickly after such an ordeal. However, I have absolutely no doubts about the care he will receive on Monday! Such a great feeling to have!Well, it's pj and snuggle time now! Can't miss that with my little guy!
So glad Zachary's recovery is going so well! He seems like an amazing little boy!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for creating this blog. It has been such a wonderful way of keeping us informed about Zachary's progress. We are very eager for his return to school. His classmates ask about him every day and miss him just as much as I do! We are all truly blessed to have him a part of our lives. :)
