And So It Begins...

Well, our morning started off with a 6am departure to the hospital. Zach was half asleep, but soon perked up and was in a very good mood. After all, it's not very often that he gets Mom and Dad all to himself! We got to the hospital at about 7:30am and he passed the time by playing "Angry Birds" with Daddy on my IPad.

Once we got into the pre-op section of the hospital, Zach was all smiles. He was very verbal, pointing at all the instruments and reciting the phrase "To the doctors" repeatedly. He followed every instruction...such a good boy!!!

He was especially excited to see that the playroom here had a similar gear toy to the one he stims with at home. It was a great way to relax him as we got closer to surgery!

Then, after the nurse came in and gave him some meds to calm him down, he got pretty sleepy and snuggled up with Daddy.

Once he was groggy, I suited up and walked with him to the OR. He wasn't crazy about the mask used to put him to sleep and fought a little bit, but was off to sleep within seconds.

Now I am sitting here in the waiting room with Marc, awaiting the moment when my pager begins to flash and buzz. We've been checking the monitor frequently to see what Zach's status is, but it still says he's in surgery. It's been over two hours now, which means that they probably had to make four incisions (the doctor had indicated that she may only have to do two incisions at the ankle, meaning shorter casts and a shorter time in surgery...doesn't look like we got that lucky though). I hate this waiting!!!! Hoping to have an update on the outcome very soon!

I'll keep you all posted!
