And Now The Real Work Begins...

Well, Zachary is now comfortably resting in his room, watching a marathon of Elmo videos. He has done amazingly well with everything, especially considering that he has such significant sensory issues and now has two HUGE casts on his legs and an IV and O2 monitor attached to his hand. He has already had some apple juice and has begun to eat, so the road to recovery has officially begun.

As far as the casts, they go all the way up his legs! Even getting his pullups on have been quite a challenge, but I'm sure we will figure out a trick or two to getting it done a little more smoothly than we did today. A special thanks goes out to my sister, Sharon, who bought Zach some button-up-the-side basketball pants for Christmas. It looks like they may be the only thing that he will be able to wear for a while. He definitely broke my heart when he first saw his casts. He began to cry, then took my hand and put it on his cast saying, "off, please". I felt terrible having to say that I couldn't. The things we wish we could do for our children!

Well, that's it for now. Marc will be spending the night here with Zach and I will make the long journey home in a couple of hours to tackle the evening routine with the other three monkeys. Then I'm back up here tomorrow morning after I get the kids off to school. I'll be sure to post an update if anything changes before his discharge.

  2. I'm so glad he is out and doing well. Everyone has been thinking about him and your family all day today. I've been asked by many Zachary admirers how he is doing. Take care.
